How it is Done
An EICR begins with a visual inspection of the consumer unit (fuse box), sockets, switches, wiring, earthing and bonding. Appropriate tests are then carried out, including earth continuity, ring and insulation resistance . Live tests follow , including polarity, earth loop impedance and RCD.
Results are recorded, compared with safety requirements and any defects are appropriately coded.
A completed EICR is compiled and issued to the customer on the same day.
Getting it Checked
An EICR will highlight any deficiencies so that improvement actions can be put in place to enhance the safety of occupants before problems occur. Any safety improvements required can take the form of repairs, replacements or updating, depending on what observations are found during the check.
